  • Day 2

    Discover Rio: Corcovado, Sugar Loaf and Barbecue Lunch!

    Today we will visit some of the most famous landmarks in Rio de Janeiro. Starting with a scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, afterwards we will ascend by train to the statue of Christ the Redeemer and then we will visit the world famous Sugar Loaf Mountain, the iconic symbol of the city.     We will begin our full day of touring by visiting some of the most famous landmarks in the city and see the impressive natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro from up above. We will take a scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, which is surrounded by Rio’s favorite neighborhoods and embraced by Christ the Redeemer. Our scenic drive ends at the bottom of the Corcovado Hill. From here we will ascend the mountain by train to the statue of Christ the Redeemer which is located at 2,300 feet above sea level. The Christ statue, known as the “wonder of Rio” was recently elected one of the 7 "New Wonders of the World". Here you will enjoy a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and discover why it is called the “Marvelous City”! After descending the mountain we will enjoy a delicious Brazilian Barbecue lunch. Following lunch we continue to the world famous ‘Pão de Açúcar’, (Sugar Loaf Mountain), the iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro and visited by over a million tourist each year, and journey to the top via glass cable-cars. We reach the peak at 1295 feet above sea level and admire the 360 degree view of the entire city including, Corcovado Mountain and downtown Rio de Janeiro. Return to hotel and enjoy the evening at your leisure. (B, L)

    You will have the day to enjoy at your leisure or book an optional tour. We will be happy to assist you with the planning of optional excursions; perhaps you would enjoy a half day tour of the “Petropolis Winter Palace” the 19th century summer residence of the imperial family. (B)

    You have the day to enjoy this exciting city at your leisure or you may wish to take one of our optional tour excursions. May we suggest booking a half day tour to the “Petropolis Winter Palace”. Petrópolis is located in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, and is only one hour from Rio de Janeiro. In Petrópolis, you will have a chance to see the Imperial Museum, which served as the summer residence of the imperial family during the 19th century. Visitors can view various historical pieces such as the scepter and crown of Emperor Don Pedro II, historical documents, imperial jewelry and the priceless pieces of art that belonged to the imperial family. During our tour we will visit the Crystal Palace and the São Pedro de Alcantara Gothic Cathedral. (B)

    Please enjoy your day of leisure or allow us to assist you in planning an optional excursion. There are many options to choose from, one of the most popular is a half day open air jeep tour of the historical center of Rio de Janeiro featuring prime examples of architecture from the colonial and imperial era.     Enjoy another relaxing day exploring Rio de Janeiro on your own, or reserve space on one of our optional tour excursions. You may wish to tour the historical center of Rio de Janeiro in an open air jeep. On this half day tour you will see the architecture of Praça XV, Arco dos Teles, the França-Brasil House (Old Customs House), the São Bento Monastery, and the Lapa Arches which are prime examples of buildings from the colonial era. From the imperial era you will see The Banco do Brasil Cultural Museum, Municipal Theater, Museum of Fine Arts and the Public National Library. In addition to these fine examples of architecture we will visit the neighborhood of Santa Teresa. This traditional neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro is home to mansions from the beginning of the 20th century, built mainly by the English who sought out this region for its mild climate. Nowadays, it is a hotspot for artists and bohemians. (B)

    Rio de Janeiro / Iguassu Falls

    Transfer to the Airport to take the scheduled flight to Foz do Iguaçú. You will be met upon arrival by our guide and transferred to your hotel. After check in you will have a half day shared guided tour of the Brazilian side of Iguazu falls. (B)

    Transfer to the Airport to take the scheduled flight to Foz do Iguaçú. You will be met upon arrival by our guide and transferred to your hotel. After check in you will have a half day shared guided tour of the Brazilian side of Iguazu National Park, one of the biggest nature reserves of Brazil. This visit will take us on a 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) walkway over the falls where you will have a magnificent panoramic view of the Argentine side of the falls, showcasing 275 falls which generates a 100 foot cloud of spray that produces a constant rainbow. This vantage point gives you the best view of the spectacular Devil’s Throat (garganta del diablo). Following the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel to enjoy the evening at your leisure.     Iguassu Falls

    Today we will visit the Cataratas de Iguazú (Iguazú Waterfalls) on the Argentine side. The waterfalls are located in the Iguazú National Park and are one of the first protected areas in America’s to have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. (B)

    Today we will visit the Cataratas de Iguazú (Iguazú Waterfalls) on the Argentine side. The 275 waterfalls with an average height of 220 feet, are located in the Iguazú National Park which is one of the first protected areas in America’s to have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. In this part of the sub tropical forest, it is possible to see a wide variety of ferns, orchids, begonias, birds and butterflies and other native species. We commence our tour with a pleasant open-train ride to Estación Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat Station). From here we enjoy a leisurely 800 meters (0.50 miles) one hour walk along a flat promenade to the edge of the “Devil’s Throat Falls” the mightiest of them all! We continue along the Upper Circuit, where some of the most spectacular sceneries can be admired. Our tour takes us to the Lower Circuit, on a 1600 meters (0.99 miles) two hour loop along a protected cat walk with its panoramic view of Devil’s Throat and interior view of Iguazu River Canyon. This is truly a unique experience for all of your senses as you are immersed in the natural beauty of the surrounding area you can feel the strength and energy of the waterfalls. (B)

    Meet your guide and depart on a shared half-day city tour, which will include Palermo Park, La Recoleta, Evita Peron’s Tomb, La Boca and San Telmo neighborhoods. You will also visit Plaza de Mayo, the grand boulevard of Buenos Aires and Casa Rosada where Evita and President Juan Domingo Peron famously gave speeches. (B)

    After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide, and depart on a half-day shared City Tour, including Palermo Park, La Recoleta, where we visit the Evita Peron’s Tomb, La Boca (Caminito St.) and San Telmo neighborhoods. You will also visit Plaza de Mayo, the grand boulevard of Buenos Aires with its many remarkable buildings and architecture, including the Cabildo (the Town Hall).
